Driving Tour of Colorado
See these great Colorado destinations from your car or
RV and find some of the best of Colorado.
Silverton -You can go on a mapped jeep route that
includes historical information and the directions to many
mines and ghost towns. (1-800-752-4494) If you want to enjoy
Colorado’s wildest backcountry, travel Red Mountain Pass
as it winds around the San Juan Mountains. You will be in
awe of its deep gorges, crashing falls, and elevations of
as much as 11,075 feet. The Pass is a favorite
of hikers, rock climbers, and ski enthusiast. You will also
see abandoned log cabins and mining equipment from this
lofty height.
Aspen - For an incredible view ofthe rocky summits,
gorgeous forest and snow-covered peaks, take a drive along
Highway 82 through Independence Pass. However, if you are
afraid of heights, you may not want to embark along the
adrenaline producing cliff hanging roads. As you travel
America’s highest road ways at 12,095 feet, you will be
enthralled by the breathtaking scenery along the way. When
you reach its peak, be sure to stop and take in the view
and walk the short trail.
Montrose
- Owl Creek Pass can be reached by driving 23 miles south
on highway 55, then going 7 miles East along Cow Creek to
Dobbie’s Park. Here you will see where Debbie Reynolds was
filmed for How the West Was Won. As you continue 8 miles
to Owl Creek Pass, you will find Silver Jack Reservoir where
you can enjoy fishing and hiking. An additional 20 miles
north, and you will find Highway 50. This is a picturesque
route, but not one recommended for large trucks or RVs.
Pogosa Springs - For a stunning drive across the Continental Divide travel northeast on Highway 160 and 84 towards Wolf Creek Pass. If you come from the east you will go through the Rio Grande National Forest (South Fork) and from the west you will pass through the San Juan National Forest. For finest sights and color, this route is best travelled in the fall.

Springs
- There are three scenic drives which offer phenomenal
views of Colorado’s wilderness. You may choose the Fish
Cree Fall which is 3 miles east, Buffalo Pass which is 15
miles northeast or the Rabbit Ears Pass which runs 22 miles
southeast.
