Great Sand Dunes
Do you love to play in the sand? What about flying a kite? If so, then be sure to visit Great Sand Dunes National Monument and Preserve, where you will see the tallest sand dunes in North America. You and your family can build sand castles, roll down the sandy slope-some of which are over 700 feet high—or bring along a kite and watch as it sails high above.
The Great Sand Dunes also has a number of hiking trails where you can see geological and botanical wonders along its alpine lakes and tundra. There are groves of ancient spruce and pines, a variety of wildlife as well as grasslands and wetlands. For more adventurous there is a 12 mile, 2 hour round-trip Four wheel drive tour.
